The delicate seed used to grow our unique Montecristo Epic wrapper tobaccos originated in Cuba and is known as Santi Espiritu. Montecristo Epic's are grown in Guayaquil, Ecuador near the Cordillera Occidental mountain range. Here, under the cooler, cloud covered mountain area the special Santi Espiritu seed thrives in the rocky, nitrogen rich lavic soil creating lush leaves with dark pleasing colors, exceptional burn properties and heady, spicy flavors.
Nicaragua is blessed with various micro-climates and soil types offering unique smoking characteristics. The brown, sandy soil of Jalapa produces tobaccos known for their aromatic, sweet smoking profiles making for a luscious binder tobacco with consistent burn. In Esteli the soil is black, rich and volcanic. The tobacco produced here is heavier in texture resulting in a full bodied, spicy smoke and when blended with the flavorful Dominican Piloto Ligero grown in La Canela, makes for a full bodied, wonderfully round and aromatic smoke.
